Poetry Mentoring & Facilitation
For the past decade, my own writing practice has matured and deepened in the company of others. I cherish the writing group as a safe place to bring work to get the support and critique I need to progress with often difficult material. Below are some of the ways I try to create space for others to do the same.
Manuscript Mentoring
I work closely with fellow poets on strengthening the language and structure of books in progress. I draw from Liz Lerman's Critical Response Process to structure the feedback process, making the poet the expert on their own manuscript. This work requires a considerable commitment and is best for those genuinely curious about how to improve and interrogate their own poetry. If you're interested, please send me a query and perhaps a few poems. This is not to judge your work, but to make sure I can be of some service to you. I work on a sliding scale, depending on your situation. Sessions can be over email/phone/in-person, depending on your preference and location.
Facilitating writing groups
As a writing facilitator, I'm always open to working with groups. Depending on what you're looking for, I can create courses, prompts, various educational resources to help your group tap into their poetic side. I've led groups made up of complete beginners, as well as those with published and MFA level writers. I've also taught poetry writing at university level. Please get in touch if you're interested.
